An orchid wedding can be a beautiful, elegant, stunning and even an exotic choice for a wedding theme. There are many orchid wedding ideas. It will all depend on the chosen venue or destination and the style of wedding that is planned. These wonderful flowers come in many different colors and an orchid wedding theme is a popular choice for many couples.

The flower itself has been known through the ages to symbolize love, thoughtfulness, beauty, wisdom, refinement and many children. During the Victorian era it became a popular flower and it’s meaning became symbolic of luxury. A pink orchid sympolizes pure affection while the cattelya symbolizes mature charm.

The most popular colors for an orchid theme wedding are a white orchid wedding, blue orchid wedding, green orchid wedding, purple orchid wedding and a pink orchid wedding. The most popular flower varieties for weddings are the phalaenopsis orchid, dendrobium orchid, vanda orchid and the cymbidium orchid.

Dendrobium Orchids

To create an orchid themed wedding it is possible to choose just one specific color and carry it through all the elements of a wedding or you can go for a mixture of varieties. This can be effective too if the colors are coordinated well.

Some types of orchids such as the dendrobium can create an exotic island or asian atmosphere while others such as the white phalaenopsis are more of an elegant traditional type. That is the great versatility of this flower. Although it will echo an orchid theme it has a possibility to be adapted and used in other types of wedding themes including tropical, beachy, exotic, asian, formal, elegant, romantic and garden.

There are many ways to incorporate the orchid theme into your wedding:

Orchid Wedding Bouquets

This is one of the main ways to use this beautiful flower on a wedding day. The bridal bouquet is a big focal point on the wedding day and will be seen from the beginning when the bride walks down the aisle right to the very end to the throwing of the bouquet. Bridesmaids bouquets are designed to coordinate with the brides bouquet and usually feature some of the same orchid wedding flowers.

Orchid Wedding Centerpieces

The centerpieces or flower arrangements on the wedding reception tables play a big part in the decorations for a wedding. Orchids make really beautiful displays and can be placed in many different ways such as in vases, floating on water, in candle holders, on pebbles and even wound around candelabras. The choice of vase or container will once again depend on whether there is a secondary theme and whether it is modern, funky or traditional.

Orchid Wedding Invitations and Stationery

By featuring orchids on wedding invitations it will give guests a glimpse into what to expect on the actual wedding day. To complete the feel of the theme it is a good idea to use coordinated stationery with the same design on other pieces such as the reply cards, thank you cards, ceremony programs and the guest book. Some of the stationery items such as place cards, menus and table cards with the orchid theme on them will also act as a decorative element on the reception tables.

Orchid Wedding Flowers

Besides using the flowers for bouquets and centerpieces, you can also use the orchids to embellish the brides hair or veil. They can be used for the bridesmaids hair too. Orchids make excellent corsages. For an island or beach wedding they can be used on the sand for decorating the aisle. Other uses include decorating individual guest place settings with a single flower. You can also use orchid wedding arrangements in the church during the ceremony.

Orchid Wedding Cakes

Some other ways to incorporate this theme would be to use orchids on your wedding cake. These can be the fresh flowers, silk or made from other things like icing. If using a particular color then it is best to ensure that the orchids used in the cake are the same as the ones used on other decorations and bouquets.
